About this year’s Strategic Needs Assessment

This year we wanted to do something a little different…

We are immensely privileged to be the guardians of the public’s data. We use it to make decisions, and we hope to enhance it through the work we do so that it can be used to protect people and improve the way we serve our communities.

So it didn’t make sense that we produce a lengthy, technical piece of research that is inaccessible to the public. We wanted to create something that was easy to read, was interesting, and caused us to have conversations around serious violence and what was going on across our communities.

This year’s Strategic Needs Assessment (SNA) therefore looks a little different. We’ve created something that we hope will be of use to communities and those who serve them. We hope you find it useful – if you do, please let us know. If you don’t, please also let us know!

We’ve designed the SNA as a number of interlinked “modules”, each of which is a short read. Many of the core modules will be of interest to everyone, but we have worked with our nine place-based partnerships to support a number of locally-focussed pieces. Together, these modules make up our SNA.

The final big change this year is the timing. Our SNA launches in April, but we hope to continue adding new content throughout the year. Got something you think would be interesting for us to take a look at?
