Working with our communities, voluntary sector and faith-based organisations

VRU Community & Voluntary Sector Board:

Meeting every six weeks, the VRU Community & Voluntary Sector Board takes a focus of developing our work in partnership with our communities and the third-sector. It is developing a work programme to maximise the resource offered by the many local community groups, voluntary sector and faith-based organisations and providers of local services.

The Board has been established to set direction and coordinate, linking the VRU’s work and that of the nine place-based partnerships with the many local organisations who share a role in local problem-solving, community cohesion and violence prevention work.

Through this work programme, the VRU seeks to strengthen the links with local people and key sections of communities, not least young people and those from diverse backgrounds, so that they have a voice and can influence both the VRU priorities and those of our nine local violence reduction partnerships.

The Community & Voluntary Sector Network:

The VRU Community & Voluntary Sector Network is a virtual group served by an online forum and the VRU newsletter. We hope to be able to convene an annual meeting. It creates a network across all those organisations and groups, helping to link them with the violence reduction agenda, sharing information and opportunities, seeking to build their capacity and ability to support.

The Network is open to join for all those who groups / organisations which have an interest and role associated with the violence reduction agenda – this could be community problem-solving, youth work, employment and education provision, sports and leisure clubs or faith organisations, to highlight just a few.

If you are interested in joining the VRU Community & Voluntary Sector Network, please contact us at VRUCommunity@thamesvalley.police.uk providing information on your community organisation and area of operation.
